Interplan™ is a web-based and mobile application which operates as a component of a DDMS (digital data management system). This DDMS system is licensed by AkzoNobel from PK Technology, LLC and then used by end users only for commercial purposes. Successful access to the Interplan™ application requires two things to occur. First, there must be a valid license agreement between AkzoNobel, as licensor, and their customer, the licensee. This customer will be the owner of or authorized vendor for an industrial facility where the DDMS system is used. Second, the licensee must assign valid credentials (username and password) to the actual user of the application for logging into and using the Interplan™ application. This login may or may not be the email address of the user. Only then will the Interplan™ application be functional.
The Interplan™ application is a data gathering application, and functions as part of a larger digital data management system. The system is primarily used in oil and gas industry, but can be used in other industries as well. PK Technology, LLC provides subscription licenses to Interplan™, who in turn provides the mobile application to their employees, or other authorized users, to capture inspection data via the application. The mobile device upon which the application resides is owned by the licensee and is used for the purpose of capturing inspection data associated with the licensee’s business. To the extent that the device may have applications other then Interplan™ installed, Interplan™ does not access any of those other applications or data created by these other applications, including the personal information of the user.
The Interplan™ mobile application does not separately collect any personally identifiable information of the user nor does it capture data for the purpose of identifying an individual, other than as part of the inspection process. Within the application, the following data is captured which may potentially identify an individual and is limited to the following: (1) GPS location, (2) photographs, and (3) video recordings. Each of these data types is captured solely for the purpose of completing an inspection form, as configured by the licensee. GPS location is captured for the sole purpose of confirming the location of the device at the time of completing an inspection form, as it relates to the item being inspected. This is for quality control purposes. Photographs are captured as part of the inspection process to document the findings of the inspection. Any photograph(s) document the visual appearance of the item being inspected. Video recording(s) are captured as part of the inspection process to document the findings of the inspection. Any video recording(s) document the visual appearance of the item being inspected.
At no time is any of the data captured by the Interplan™ application shared with or published to any party other than the licensee for any purpose. Because the mobile device upon which the Interplan™ mobile application is installed is owned by the licensee, AkzoNobel does not control the type of data that is captured. The capturing of digital data, using the Interplan™ application, is part of the user’s employment duties with the licensee. The accessing, collecting and transmission of all data, including how it is used, stored and secured, is part of and controlled by a license agreement between PK Technology, LLC and AkzoNobel. All data privacy and security requirements are defined within the licensing agreement.
